雪山の尾根で老人の死体が見つかった。外傷はなく、死因は凍死。薄手のシャツにスラックスという軽装で足元はスリッパ履き。手にはなぜか雑誌が握られていた。
後の調べで、さらに不可解な事実が判明した。老人は、乗っていた旅客機がその山の上空を通過している最中、トイレへ立ったきり行方が分からなくなっていたのだ。
